Summary Under the general supervision of the Director of the Health Department and the Medical Authority of the Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner performs advanced clinical and preventive care for individuals served by the Hays County Health Department, including clients in the STI, TB, Immunization, and Indigent Health programs. The Nurse Practitioner conducts physical assessments, diagnoses and treats medical conditions, provides health education and counseling, and may serve as a resource for public health emergency response efforts. This position will supervise and provide medical guidance to the clinic staff This position helps expand access to care for underserved and at-risk populations through direct clinical services and coordination of care.
Responsibilities Responsibilities - Provide comprehensive primary and preventive care to individuals across the lifespan, including physical assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
- Manage care and treatment of infectious diseases including STIs and TB under established clinical protocols and standing delegation orders.
- Administer or order immunizations, medications, diagnostic testing, and treatments consistent with scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with other clinic staff, including public health nurses, case managers, and administrative staff, to support seamless patient care.
- Serve as a preceptor or trainer for other clinical team members as appropriate.
- Provide public health education and counseling to patients, families, and community members.
- Assist with surveillance, reporting, and emergency response efforts during public health emergencies or outbreaks.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Collaborate with other county departments and community partners to improve access to care and public health outcomes.
Education and/or Experience Education and/or Experience - Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required.
- Minimum of two (2) years clinical experience in family practice, internal medicine, or public health preferred
- Experience in STI, TB, immunization, or indigent care settings is a plus
Other Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Other Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - Current and valid Texas license as a Nurse Practitioner
- National certification (e.g., AANP, ANCC) in Family or Adult Nurse Practitioner specialty
- Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain
- Current CPR certification
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
- Valid Texas Driver's License
