Under direction from the Director and the Associate Director of the Special Education Division, the Education Administrator I manages the Programs and Partnerships Unit (PPU). Responsibilities include providing state and federal special education administrative, policy and programmatic leadership; managerial direction; and supervision of education program consultants, analysts, and support staff for the program responsibilities assigned. The PPU responsibilities include: compliance with Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) provisions and state statutes for programs managed, support with the annual state budget and legislative process, create or maintain internal and external relationships and resources with general education programs and agencies to align services and improve outcomes for students with disabilities. Additional responsibilities include: providing guidance to staff with interagency agreements, contracts, data analysis, grants, statewide agency initiatives, and program evaluation. The PPU staff partner with units across the Special Education Division and Department, state agencies, Special Education Local Plan Areas, local educational agencies, and universities to support work based learning, postsecondary transition planning, and family empowerment centers. This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Have knowledge of state and federal laws related to the implementation of special education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA);
- Extensive experience with inter agency agreement management
- Experience managing federal grants for special education programs and general contract management;
- Experience working with family engagement and secondary transition in special education
