As a Communications Operator, you will serve as a vital connection between the community and first responders, ensuring that emergency and non-emergency calls are handled efficiently and professionally. This role is essential in keeping the community safe and providing critical support to law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical personnel, and other city departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Answer and monitor emergency and non-emergency service calls, dispatching police officers, fire department, emergency medical services, and other city personnel.

Operate and manage local, state, and national crime information systems (TLETS/NLETS, TCIC/NCIC, OSSI) to assist public safety personnel.

Quickly verify incident locations and severity to determine the appropriate emergency response.

Provide Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) instructions during medical emergencies.

Accurately log and enter data related to calls for service and various public safety events.

Monitor interior and exterior security camera systems and activate emergency alert systems when necessary.

Utilize computerized mapping systems and maintain detailed records of law enforcement transactions.

Foster effective working relationships with law enforcement personnel, emergency responders, city departments, and the public.

What You Need to Succeed:

Typing speed of at least 44 words per minute.

Strong communication skills with clear diction.

Ability to operate radio, telephone, and related communications equipment.

Previous experience in public safety, data entry, or filing is preferred.

Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are a plus but not required.

Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old.

High school diploma or GED required.

Valid Texas Driver's License.

Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Must meet background requirements, including no family violence convictions and no felony or Class A misdemeanor convictions. Class B misdemeanors must not have occurred within the past 10 years.

Additional Details:

Lateral Communications Operators receive 1:1 pay for experience.

This position may require 24-hour availability in emergency situations.
