Minimum Requirements Education: Associates Degree (or higher) or a passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment. Skills: Basic understanding of American Sign Language (ASL) or similar forms of sign language communication. Preferred (Education/Experience) Completion of National Interpreter Certification (NIC), Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), or Board of Interpreters Certification (BEI) preferred. Position Overview The Assistant HI Interpreter plays a vital role in facilitating communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing, their hearing peers, classroom teachers, and other school personnel. This position works under the direct supervision of a highly qualified teacher and ensures that messages are interpreted faithfully, conveying both the content and spirit of the speaker using a mode of communication that is accessible to the student. Training & Support Additional training will be provided for selected applicants to ensure readiness and alignment with school standards. General Responsibilities Facilitate communication among students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their hearing peers, classroom teachers, and other personnel. Interpret messages accurately and respectfully, ensuring the student receives the full intent and meaning of the speaker.
