Dallas City Attorney’s Office – Community Prosecution Litigation Section
The Dallas City Attorney’s Office is seeking an experienced, energetic, and self-motivated paralegal to fill a full-time position in the Community Prosecution Litigation Section. The section is responsible for enforcing city ordinances and state laws related to minimum housing standards, zoning, environmental protection, fair housing, open records, sexually oriented businesses, massage establishments, and public nuisances, to make neighborhoods safe and to resolve complex issues facing the city. The section may also defend the city against claims and lawsuits filed in state or federal district courts.
The successful candidate will assist attorneys with all aspects of legal work with an emphasis on civil litigation, including preparing and responding to discovery requests; responding to subpoena requests; researching legal issues; preparing correspondence, legal memoranda, pleadings, and documents pertaining to cases; collecting documentary evidence and other information; securing copies of regulations, statutes, and case reports; and working on briefs, including checking citations and generating tables of contents and indexes of authorities; all under attorney supervision. The position involves substantial contact with members of the public, city officials, and staff. Other duties may be assigned.
Experience in pre-trial and trial phases of civil litigation as a paralegal in Texas federal and state courts, excellent personal and telephone communication skills, writing ability, organizational ability, attention to detail, and proficiency in Word, Excel, Adobe, e-filing, and e-discovery platforms are required. Candidates must have a paralegal certificate or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Salary is commensurate with experience. The city’s comprehensive beneits package comes with the position. This position is exempt from the provisions applicable to civil service, pursuant to Chapter XVI, Section 9 of the Dallas City Charter.
