The role of Sr. Environmental Specialist will play a key role in maintaining environmental compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations. This position will support and/or lead environmental areas of responsibility, such as: air permitting, regulated and non-regulated waste management, wastewater and stormwater permitting, & energy conservation and clean energy generation. The position is also a key role for maintaining compliance with the company’s ISO 14001 certificate. 

What you'll do

  • Implement, coordinate and maintain environmental protection activities to verify compliance with all Volvo and State, Local and Federal Environmental Regulatory requirements.  
  • Support plant environmental coordinators and provide guidance and interpretation of all environmental regulatory requirements as they relate to the production activities.  
  • Perform measurements, analysis and appropriate reporting according to legal requirements. 
  • Develop and perform risk analysis. 
  • Continuously be updated and be proactive concerning new legal requirements. 
  • Develop and implement specific Programs and Policies as needed to maintain full compliance with all applicable requirements.  

What you'll bring

  • 4 year degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or similar.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an Environmental role in automotive or other industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Team player, strong social abilities. 
  • Preferred certified Lead Auditor - ISO 14001. 
  • Knowledge of manufacturing quality processes.
  • Project and time management skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills as well as advanced analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong root cause and corrective analysis skills.
  • Ability to articulate complex issues.
  • Continuously works to protect and enhance Volvo’s reputation.
  • Carries out all duties and responsibilities with the utmost integrity and consistent with the highest ethical standards.
  • Remains flexible and responsive to changing conditions.
  • Uses both logic and intuition to reach appropriate conclusions.
