As the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor in UCSDH Outpatient Pharmacies, this role is essential to ensuring high-quality patient care across various areas, including Hospital Discharge, Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Ambulatory Care, Employee Health, and Retail Pharmacy. Our outpatient pharmacies focus on dispensing and distributing medication, screening prescriptions for appropriateness, performing interventions, administering immunizations, providing patient consultations, and ensuring accurate billing for multiple payers such as third-party insurers, Medicaid, and Medicare Part B and D.
The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor oversees outpatient pharmacy technicians, coordinating daily operations and supporting their roles in drug dispensing, distribution, compounding, inventory management, robotics maintenance, billing, and payment processing. This position includes but is not limited to direct supervision, managing schedules, recruiting & hiring, timekeeping, performance evaluations, goal setting, training, fostering a collaborative, efficient, and compliant work environment. Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager and collaborating with Pharmacy Supervisors, this role contributes to excellent patient care by promoting strong relationships within and across departments while upholding standards required by various accrediting bodies and federal and state regulations.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Pharmacy Technician in the State of California.
Three (3) or more years of relevant experience.
Knowledge of pharmacy industry trends and best practices in optimizing the use of medication to treat patients and ability to apply concepts to specific situations to advise staff.
Knowledge of relevant Pharmacy Department, medical center, and UC policies and protocols including medication storage, safety, and patient privacy and treatment. Knowledge of all pharmacy federal and state laws and regulations.
Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on technical skills to compound, prepare, mix, and manufacture sophisticated or rare medications in specialty area. Motivates and inspires staff to improve quality and services.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment.
Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner.
Interpersonal skills to effectively work well with others to achieve common goals. Customer service orientation to quickly address questions or issues.
Ability to apply reasoning skills to evaluate issues and identify a potential solution. Provides guidance and judgement within defined standards to determine an appropriate action.
Verbal and written communication skills, to explain clinical concepts, actively listen and advise.
Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in clinical documentation applications and pharmacy database technology and train others to effectively use applications.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $63,800 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $30.56 - $53.45
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
