Instrumental Lessons Teachers – Piano, Violin, Low Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion

Germantown Friends School is seeking private lesson instructors for Piano, Low Brass, and Percussion. Instructors would teach a mix of ages and ability levels. Successful candidates will have a relevant degree in performance or pedagogy, a broad knowledge of the instrument literature, and a demonstrated desire to develop young musicians. Student lessons can take place during the school day, and before or after school.

Piano Instructor:

• Teach students in grades K–12.
• Ability to teach across a variety of styles (classical, jazz, pop) preferred.

Violin Instructor:

• Teach students in grades K–12.

Low Brass Instructor

• Teach students in grades 3–12.
• Strongest need is in low brass instruction (trombone, euphonium, tuba).
• Ability to also teach beginner French horn is a plus, though not required.
• Doubling across brass instruments is encouraged.

Woodwinds

• Teach students in grades 3–12.
• Doubling across woodwind instruments is encouraged.

Percussion Instructor

• Teach students in grades 3–12.
• Can teach concert percussion and drum set.

• Can be a creative, thoughtful collaborator with Music Department colleagues.
• Can communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
• Is able to participate in ways that support the GFS commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Can differentiate instruction and cultivate student growth.
• Will work to create and fully support practices of an equitable classroom.
• Has a Master’s degree.

Expectations

• Teach weekly instrumental music lessons.
• Communicate student progress to parents.
• Collaborate with General Music teachers and ensemble directors to create a cohesive plan of instruction for students.
• Support the school's mission and strategic initiatives.
