Job Description

The Driver is responsible for coordinating and safely transporting patients to and from facility programming including appointments, activity trips, airport shuttle service and other special events in a punctual and timely manner. Also provides monitoring and reporting of patient behaviors, crisis situations, and medical emergencies as needed as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. Transports visitors or staff as needed. Roles and Responsibilities include driving company vehicles to transport patients for admissions, appointments, activity trips, discharges, and other special events in a punctual and timely manner; picking up or transporting visitors or staff as needed; assuring that all passengers are wearing seatbelts before the vehicle is started; maintaining constant awareness and supervision of clients while transporting them; complying with all company safety policies and practices and alleviating any safety issue by resolving or by notifying appropriate persons for assistance as necessary; serving as a positive role model for clients and peers providing examples of appropriate behaviors, effective communication, and conflict resolution; encouraging open, honest communication to facilitate problem solving on the unit, during transport, and when attending off unit activities; charting in client records as appropriate and/or assigned; providing a verbal report/briefing to the oncoming shift; responding and adhering to “on call” schedule as required; accurately and appropriately completing all transportation documentation; maintaining vehicle log(s) and reporting maintenance issues to appropriate facility staff; ensuring all company vehicles are kept clean and functional; maintaining vehicles in safe condition and keeping record of vehicle maintenance; responding to units to assist in behavioral events when needed; driving company facility vehicle to pick-up supplies or equipment, as needed. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, one or more years relevant work experience in behavioral facility preferred, and a valid and in good standing state driver's license.
