Transdev in Boston, MA is seeking a Dispatcher (Freeport yard in Dorchester, MA - position hours: 4:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. & 11:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.) to bolster our team. In this role, the Dispatcher will provide impeccable customer service to our clients and passengers. The individual schedules and dispatches drivers in order to service vehicles that carry passengers. The Dispatcher keeps records, logs, and schedules of the calls they receive; monitors and controls the actions taken; and maintains information on each call. The Dispatcher also prepares a detailed report on all activities occurring during their shifts.

  • $30.44 per hour (Union Collective Bargaining Agreement Payscale)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assigns transportation services and maintains check out logs.
  • Assigns stand-by or extra-board operators in the event of operator absences, increased service volumes or to minimize service disruptions as a result of traffic, vehicle malfunctions, operator problems and/or emergency situations.
  • Maintains attendance log for operators and other appropriate staff.
  • Assigns vehicles giving consideration to preventive maintenance schedules and capacity needs.
  • Maintains two-way communication with operators, providing information on customers, cancellations, and directional assistance when necessary.
  • Monitors operators and trip status, making adjustments and reassignments as necessary to ensure on time performance.
  • Maintains scheduling and performance data in the event of real-time operations.
  • Documents accurately and appropriately daily events related to service.
  • Communicates effectively with operations staff regarding scheduling or passenger issues.
  • Maintains professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Handle multiple tasks accurately and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effectively direct employees in the performance of their duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Two (2) years of passenger transportation related experience.
  • Dispatching or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to adapt to changing situations and listen to feedback.
  • A customer service-oriented mentality with attention to detail.
  • Must be able to demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy and possess good judgement and discretion.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills.
  • Proven customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • General knowledge of Windows-based computer operating system and Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to work as a member of the team.
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers on all levels and be able to work well with diverse groups.
  • Ability to adapt and remain flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to use multi-line phone system and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
Physical Requirements:


The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
  • Majority of work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.
  • Occasionally stand, stoop, squat, and walk for extended periods of time; bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level; use hands and fingers to handle small parts, push buttons; talk and hear.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day) typing or looking at a computer screen.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • The noise level in the environment is moderate.
