Overview The Carrier Sales Representative develops and maintains partnerships with high quality transportation carriers to cover the freight needs of customers. The role stays informed about issues and trends impacting the freight market to negotiate the best rates, maximize load volume, and achieve profitable margins. This position is accountable for meeting and exceeding individual KPI’s and business objectives, including but not limited to Gross Profit Margin and Growth of existing carrier network. Responsibilities Establish, develop and maintain partnerships with high quality transportation carriers within the organization’s qualification guidelines. Procure qualified carriers to move freight for customers, ensuring carrier capability for pickup/delivery requirements, appropriate equipment, and awareness of any special considerations. Negotiate rates with carriers to maximize profit while driving load volume. Schedule pickup and delivery appointments that meet the needs of contracted carriers and customer requirements. Track all loads from contract through final delivery and update systems with status changes as needed. Communicate status updates to internal and external customers as required. Collect, document and disseminate accurate information to/from carriers and drivers and between internal departments. Represent customers and carriers professionally and respectfully in all interactions. Stay current with issues and trends affecting the freight market and monitor weather and road conditions that may impact pickup and delivery times. Additional duties as assigned. Education and Experience High school diploma required; Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 1 year of experience in a similar role preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Familiarity with transportation management software (TMS) such as McLeod or TMW preferred. Familiarity with CRM software such as Salesforce or One-Page preferred. Bilingual skills are a plus.
